Marlies Boterman (1977) studeerde architectuur aan de Technische Universiteit in Delft en aan de Royal Danisch School of Architecture in Kopenhagen. In 2003 is ze afgestudeerd met een eervolle vermelding. In 2010 heeft ze haar diploma tot meubelmaker gehaald aan het hout-en meubileringscollege en sinds 2020 is ze geregistreerd interieur architect. Aanvullend heeft zij zich ontwikkeld in fotografie, keramiek en beeldhouwen. Ze werkte in Nederland onder andere voor de Rijksgebouwendienst, OMA en Inside Outside. Ze heeft vijf jaar in Engeland gewerkt voor Sevil Peach en PLP. In 2019 heeft ze een kunstwerk van 6,6 meter hoog gerealiseerd in Londen. In 2013 heeft ze haar eigen architectenbureau opgericht, waarmee ze opdrachten doet in Nederland en Engeland. Zij is in 2007 genomineerd voor de Lensvelt de Architect Interieurprijs. Zij is actief binnen het architectuuronderwijs en was gastdocent aan de TU Delft, Academies van Bouwkunst Amsterdam, Arnhem, Groningen, Rotterdam en Tilburg, in Londen aan de RCA en The Cass en aan de IE Madrid. Van 2017 tot 2021 was ze coördinator van de Minor Architectuur op de Academie van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam. En vanaf 2021 tot heden is ze binnen dezelfde Academie verantwoordelijk voor het vormstudie programma, waarbij onderzoek en ontwerp vanuit het materiaal centraal staat. Ze is als architect verbonden aan het lectoraat Architectuur en Circulair denken. Zij geeft internationaal lezingen, organiseert tentoonstellingen en heeft werk geëxposeerd. Details en vakmanschap zijn als vanzelfsprekend verweven in haar ontwerpen. Door het onderzoeken van duurzame en lokale materialen streeft ze ernaar om de rijkdom van de aarde en de schoonheid van deze materialen zichtbaar te maken in experimenten, kunst, vormgeving en architectuur.
